Skin Care Consultation with our Cosmetics Nurse/Dermal Clinician
Hope Dermatology is pleased to offer appointments for a detailed skin care consultation with one of our experienced nurses and dermal clinician. In this consultation we will take a detailed history of your current skincare regimen and carefully examine your skin; tailoring a comprehensive skin care plan to address your specific concerns such as wrinkle prevention, pigmentation, sun damage or acne control.
If required, additional skin care treatments may be discussed during this consultation including chemical peels, injectable treatments or laser therapy.
To book an appointment with our nurse/dermal clinician for a skin care consultation call the practice on (03) 9039 5644. Cosmetic consultations are approximately 45 minutes in duration and there is a fee of $50.00 + GST = $55. This cosmetic fee is redeemable on any Rationale product (must be bought on the day) or cosmetic treatment booked either on the day or within 3 months of the appointment.
**Please note - the skin care consultation is not for the diagnosis or management of medical skin problems. If you have a specific medical skin issue this will require a referral from your GP and a formal consultation with one of our Dermatologists.**
LPL - LED Pulsed Therapeutic Light
LPL - LED light therapy is the newest and most advanced LED light system available. Originally developed for wound healing, LED light therapy is a wonderful adjunct therapy when undergoing any cosmetic or injectable procedure and aids to relieve pain and improve healing time post surgery. LPL - LED has shown therapeutic benefits in the treatment of:
• Skin rejuvenation and skin health
• Active Acne
• Hair loss
• Scar management
Our LED (Light Emitting Diode) treatment is able to utilise Optical Lens Array Technology to focus light and heat from three different wavelengths of light
415nm – blue light, 830nm – Infrared, 635nm – red light
These particular wavelengths of light have known healing properties to achieve concentrated therapeutic intensity within the cells of target tissue enabling -
• Accelerated wound healing
• Reduction of redness, bruising and swelling
• Improved Post-surgical wound and scar healing
What should I expect?
The non-invasive LPL treatment delivers SAFE, concentrated light energy without risk of trauma or damage to the skin and without the harmful effects of UV. The treatment is relaxing, comfortable, with no downtime and suitable for ALL skin types. Your therapist will set you up in our very comfortable treatment room where you will lie down and your eyes will be covered with goggles to protect your eyes from the bright light. The wavelength of light, or a combination of light will be individually set for your skin requirements and your therapist will then leave you to relax. Even with protective eyewear you will see a bright glow and feel a very slight, comfortable warming of the skin which is very well tolerated. Treatment times can vary depending on indication from 5mins to 15mins. Afterwards, you may notice a mild pink glow and a radiant appearance.
How many treatments will I need?
Multiple treatments will be needed depending on indication. Typically, we recommend 1-2 sessions per week for at least 4 weeks. These can be a stand-alone treatment, or for best results incorporated as an add-on to any of our other cosmetic treatments. Your expectations, potential results and expected downtime will be discussed with you in consultation.
Vascular and Pigment Laser
Here at Hope Dermatology we use the Cutera Excel V laser to treat vascular and pigmented lesions. It has both the 532nm and 1064nm laser components which allows us to treat many different types of lesions in all skin types effectively and safely.
Colour and texture of the skin are often the defining features people notice in both themselves and others and impacts greatly on whether someone is perceived as youthful or not, more so than wrinkles! Sun damage is usually a combination of pigment and vessels and we can target both elements with each session of the Excel V, giving people a great, visible improvement in their skin tone in even their first session. Depending on your skin concern we usually recommend 2-3 sessions, around 4-6/weeks apart.
We encourage an initial consultation with one of our experienced dermatologists to assess your skin concerns and ensure you are receiving the very best advice and care from our expert medical team of Dermatologists and Cosmetic Nurses.

Laser genesis has been described as a “lunchtime laser” as it is a walk in, walk out procedure that has little to no downtime for most people. It utilises the 1064nm YAG laser and is a wonderful treatment for people wanting global facial rejuvenation or those with global, generalised redness in the skin.
It is a comfortable and relaxing laser treatment; creating gentle heating within the dermis which stimulates collagen production and leaves the skin looking stimulated with a nice healthy pink tone. It is well tolerated by patients of all skin types. Our patients love this procedure and describe their skin the following day as feeling as though they have had a facial. Laser Genesis can treat fine lines, pores, uneven skin tone, and diffuse redness
As with all procedures that can boast very little downtime, typically a number of treatments is required to achieve a great result. We recommend a series of 4-6 sessions, approximately 4-6/weeks apart. Here at Hope Dermatology we will always discuss with our patients what level of result they can realistically expect from any of our treatment plans.
Like most things, the more you do, the better the outcome.
With Laser Genesis you will always look forward to your next visit at Hope Dermatology.
Ultraformer III - for lifting, tighterning and countouring face and body
The Ultraformer III is the world’s leading system for ultrasound lifting, tightening and contouring for face and body. Using micro-focused ultrasound energy, the Ultraformer can address common age-related concerns such as:
· Jowl and Neck lift · Jawline contouring · Eyebrow lift · Skin tightening face and body · Wrinkle Reduction including crow's feet and upper lip lines
This non-surgical, non-invasive treatment is the latest in non-surgical skin tightening technology and is capable of producing instant visible results with ongoing improvement and long-lasting effects. The treatment has little to no downtime and is extremely well tolerated and is suitable for all ages and skin types.
How does it work?
HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) technology produces thermal energy from ultrasound waves. Ultraformer's highly focused ultrasound energy heats targeted areas to the ideal temperature range to denature collagen, stimulating collagen remodelling and regeneration and facilitating tissue contraction resulting in a visible lift and tightening of the treated area. The Ultraformer uses patented elliptic transducers to deliver fast and consistent energy throughout the treatment for improved comfort and results. The treatment targets tissue at multiple depths including the deeper SMAS layer (superficial muscular aponeurotic system) which is responsible for the common age-related changes we see in the lower face resulting in sagging, heaviness and jowls. The SMAS also plays a significant role in providing facial elasticity and support and is the target area in a traditional, surgical facelift when rejuvenating the lower third of the face.
What should I expect?
Prior to treatment the skin is cleansed to remove makeup and creams and the area to be treated is marked out in sections to ensure best results and minimise discomfort. Much like an ultrasound used during pregnancy, a thin layer of clear gel is applied to the skin and the ultrasound handpiece is slowly moved over the area being treated for the required number of pulses. Skin is targeted at multiple depths. Starting with the deepest layer (the SMAS for “lift”) we then repeat the process at a medium depth (the dermis for “plump”), and again at a more superficial depth (epidermis for “wrinkle reduction”). The treatment is well tolerated with most people describing the sensation as a “pin prick” or “deep pinch” and this will vary depending on the depth that we are treating. You will notice we push the handpiece into the skin guiding upwards with firm pressure to ensure good conduction of the ultrasound energy. Our settings can be varied for improved comfort if required.
Downtime is minimal to none. You may experience mild erythema, or a pink glow post treatment. Occasionally, bruising may occur at the deeper depths although this is not common.
How many treatments will I need?
Typically best results are seen with 1-2 sessions, 3months apart and maintenance yearly. Your expectations, potential results and expected downtime will be discussed with you in consultation.
Formerly referred to as “chemical peels” these days we prefer the term “micro-exfoliating peels” as it is no longer necessary, nor desirable to physically, visibly peel the skin to achieve a great cosmetic outcome and most cases the solutions used are naturally derived acids. eg. Lactic acid from milk.
Here at Hope Dermatology we offer a variety of peels tailored for various skin conditions and skin types. Composed of naturally occurring fruit and milk acids, they gently exfoliate the top layers of old skin to unveil smooth, soft and brighter skin. Performed regularly, in conjunction with a good skin care plan, they can treat and improve the following:
- Enlarged pores
- Sun damage
- Skin dullness
- Fine lines and texture

Anti-wrinkle injections have proven to be a safe and highly effective method of facial rejuvenation. They have a variety of cosmetic indications but are particularly suited to improve the appearance of dynamic wrinkles (wrinkles that form due to movement of facial muscles). By gently relaxing the facial muscles, the result is smoother and more youthful looking skin. They are used to treat frown lines, forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. They may also be used to treat some lines around the mouth (or to treat an asymmetrical smile or gummy smile), the neck and nose.
At Hope Dermatology our qualified dermatologists and nurses can perform these anti-wrinkle injections in comfortable surrounds with our aim being to refresh your skin with a "natural" look and in a safe manner.
The injections used may also treat some medical conditions such as bruxism (teeth grinding) and excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Dermal fillers are a non-surgical option designed to treat facial wrinkles and restore lost volume giving you a refreshed, natural look. Dermal fillers have considerably evolved over the last decade and are now a safe and effective cosmetic treatment. Essentially they can be used as a non-surgical treatment to reshape the face. They can help with lines around the mouth, the nasolabial area, dark circles under the eyes and cheeks, as well as the lips and sagging jaw line.
At Hope Dermatology, an initial consultation with our team would assess if fillers are suitable and safe for you, and which is the most appropriate product for your skin.
Micro-Skin Needling (Dermapen)
Micro-skin needling with the Dermapen is one of the most advanced, minimally invasive, non-surgical approaches to skin rejuvenation available today. The micro-fine, vertical needles create microscopic channels within the dermis and epidermis, stimulating the skins’ natural healing cascade. This improves blood flow to the skin, promotes improved skin cell renewal, normalises skin functionality and increases collagen production. In fact, Dermapen is renowned for its collagen induction capability and is widely referred to as CIT, “collagen induction therapy.
Dermapen is indicated for a variety of common skin complaints including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Discolouration including hyperpigmentation (darkening), hypopigmentation (lightening) and sun damage
- Acne scarring
- Traumatic or surgical scarring
- Stretch marks
An advantage of seeing a specialist Dermatologist for cosmetic treatments is that Dermatologists are able to give advice on other treatments that improve the appearance of the skin. As expert cosmetic doctors, we are often able recommend combination treatment with anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, enzyme treatments and laser therapy to achieve superior outcomes. In addition, we can also prescribe other tailored topical treatments (not available to the public over-the-counter) to complement the therapies above.
